This past spring Sea Grandon Photography added uber-stylish Senior Portraits to our repertoire.  The portraits above are just a few of the gorgeous shots of this Class of 2009 stunner.  I will be posting more highlights from these shoots throughout the summer, and am looking forward to meeting Chicago's Class of 2010 high school seniors.

Ballerina Portraits on June 4th and 5th

Ballerina_portraits

I am very excited to announce that on June 4th and 5th, I will be shooting ballerina portraits at the Chicago location of A Fairytale Ballet  (3234 N. Southport).   If your daughter is a student there, you can schedule a mini session with me by calling the school at 773-477-4488.  I am looking forward to all of the tulle and tiaras!  This is just one of many exciting collaborations that I have going on this spring, so stayed tuned for more fun announcements!

Start with Mom

Image002

When planning outfits for your summertime photo session, why not start with mom?  I think this dress from Tory Burch would look great for an outdoor session, particularly on the beach!  If you look closely, it has navy, green and pink in the pattern, so there are a ton of options for dressing the rest of the family using this dress as the jumping off point.  I also think this dress would be fabulous for showing off curves during a maternity shoot.  When mom looks chic, the whole family looks chic.  Happy Mother's Day!

Art Chicago

Image002

Art Chicago opens on Thursday evening, and it is without a doubt, one of my favorite events of the year.  Last year, I gave birth to my son on the opening day of the show, but still made it there by the closing day with 5-day-old Teddy in tow.   That's how much I love Art Chicago.  We managed to see a good portion of the show and scooped up a fantastic painting too.

Art Chicago was founded as the American version of Art Basel in contemporary art show in 1980, and was the first show of its kind in America.  It is an annual international fair of contemporary and modern art.  Exhibitors include the world's leading emerging and established galleries.  During the 1990s, it was widely considered to be the nation's most important 20th century art show, second only to Art Basel Switzerland in global importance.  Similar shows have since popped up in other places like New York and Miami (I'm sure you've heard of a little show called Art Basel Miami, yes?).   But Chicago is just as sexy as Miami and just as sophisticated as New York, so DON'T MISS THIS SHOW!

Art Chicago 2009 will include painting, photography, drawings, prints, sculpture, video and special installations from cutting-edge artists and modern masters.  Touring the show and soaking up all of the visual imagery is treat enough, but I suspect that the current economic climate will present some interesting buying opportunities as well.

Be sure to check out the NEXT show as well (which will be running simultaneously on a separate floor of the Merchandise Mart), for emerging artists and more affordable acquisitions.

I hope to see you at the Preview Party on Thursday night!

Spring Color Inspiration

These Dutch tulip fields are just too divine, and the perfect antidote to my "it's still freezing in Chicago" blues.  Why not use these photos to devise a modern color palette for your spring portraits?  Thanks to my friend Kristen for posting this link on Facebook and brightening my day!

Palm Trees and Ponies

We are just back from a fantastic family vacation in Florida.  I have not had a chance to go through all of the family photos yet, but this one of Cord caught my eye and I wanted to share it with you.  Those of you that are on Facebook will note that this is my daughter who has requested a "rockstars riding ponies" birthday party theme.  Her birthday is not until June, so I have some time to work on that one.  The SGP April calendar is pretty full, so I am looking forward to seeing many of you soon!

Bella's Blues

At the end of January, I had a fun session with two year old Bella at her home.  I brought along some of the gorgeous backdrops I have been using to keep the dreary indoor months interesting.  This blue brocade really showcases Bella's amazing blue eyes.

Winter Studio Session Fun

The weather in Chicago has certainly chased us indoors for the season, but there is still lots of fun to be had.  Check out some of our new backdrops at the studio.  Love this sweet three year old and her handsome cousin!

Charlie: Urban Portrait Session

This first shot is one of my favorite family portraits of the 2008 season.  It would be fantastic as a 24x30 unframed fine art gallery wrap.  You may recognize this family from previous blog posts (August 2007 and October 2007).  Charlie is nearing his second birthday and growing cuter by the minute---check out his surfboard hoodie and black and white Vans.  Can you tell he is a California boy?  The next time I get to photograph him will be in Sonoma this August.  I cannot wait!
